BOAF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Scope
The scope of the Professional Development Education Committee shall include all training and educational programs administered by the Association. Those programs shall include the educational courses offered as part of the Annual Educational Conference, Site Seminars and any other training provided for certification.
Purpose
The purpose of the Committee is to maintain, administer and expand the training and continuing education programs in order to improve and enhance the skills, knowledge and experience of the building code enforcement profession as well as those of affiliated professions in the interest of promoting the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Florida.
Objectives
The Committee shall strive to accomplish those objectives established by the President and/or Chairperson that are endorsed by the Board of Directors. During the 2010/2011 term, those objectives are as follows:
- Update Objectives to reflect all changes and updates done to the committee up to and including the 2010/2011 term.
- Review, maintain and expand the library of continuing education courses owned by the Association and submission of courses to secure approval from the BCAIB, CILB, Architecture and Engineering Boards.
- Prepare and submit for approval at least 8 – 2 hour continuing education courses and advanced courses which focus on the Florida Building Code and its supplements.
- Develop a strategy, policy and procedure for the selection and approval of qualified instructors who will be certified to teach courses on behalf of the Association, including the Core Curriculum and Advanced Courses.
- Prepare an educational course matrix for the Annual Conference and secure approval for any new courses offered.
- Prepare an educational course matrix for the Site Seminar program that will provide a minimum of 14 hours of continuing education credit which satisfies all mandatory requirements of the various regulatory boards.
- Develop a proposal that will ensure the Site Seminar program will be presented at least 6 times a year through the State. The proposal shall include the selection and approval of the instructor, dissemination of a standardized curriculum, handouts if required, administration, operational funding, etc.
- Develop educational programs with the assistance of the Training and Codes Administrator in order to foster and enhance the basic interest and principles of the Building Safety Coalition (BOAF, IAEI, FAPGMI, FHBA, AIA)
Members
There shall be a minimum of 7 active members and up to 6 non-voting advisory members who shall be appointed by the President from various geographical regions of the State, whenever possible. The President shall serve as an ad-hoc member. The President shall appoint a Chairperson from amongst the group who shall preside over the deliberations of the committee and represent the Committee before the Board of Directors. The Committee shall also elect a Vice-Chairperson who shall serve in the same capacity in the absence of the Chairperson.
Voting
Each member shall have the right to cast one vote on any decision made by the Committee. The Committee may ballot their vote by telephone, mail or email at the discretion of the Chairperson. A quorum is established with 4 members casting their vote and a simple majority shall determine the will of the Committee.
Procedure
Basic Robert’s Rules of Order shall govern the conduct and proceedings of the Committee
